Coromandel Peninsula

This is one of New Zealand’s favourite summer playgrounds.  Lush native forests, pristine white sandy beaches and secluded coves are the Coromandel’s signature scenery.

The Coromandel is home to one of New Zealand’s most historic coincidences – it was the first landfall of Captain James Cook in 1769.   Little did he know that eight centuries earlier the very bay he’d stepped foot on had been the landing place of the Maori navigator Kupe - who named the new land Aotearoa.

The unspoiled beauty of the Coromandel seduces many a traveler and as it’s only a two hour drive from New Zealand’s largest city of Auckland, it’s so very accessible … and yet a world away from the hustle and bustle.

Here nature takes centre stage by exploring the protected forest and marine parks is made easy by an assortment of local businesses running eco-tours.  You’ll discover tracks through untamed native forests … incredible sculptures rising from the sea… a thermal Hot Water Beach where you can dig your own hot pool …  and pristine sands where you can trail endless fresh footprints.
Now remember it’s only two hours drive from the hustle bustle of Auckland City to this truly magnificent part of the country.

As you’ve seen the natural environment is the star of the show and the people here are warm and welcoming too.

We suggest that if you want to just blob out then spend 4 days here if you are trying to cover both islands or wanting to see a lot of New Zealand then 1 – 2 nights are enough.
