Napier & Hawkes Bay
Hawkes Bay, one of the country's most bountiful regions, was named by Captain Cook after Sir Edward Hawkes, first Lord of the Admiralty. But before being discovered and colonized this bountiful regions history spanned back to the 12th century, home to several Maori tribes and it is easy to see why.
The Hawkes Bay is conducive to all things living … a year round holiday destination … with an average two thousand two hundred hours of sunshine … perfect conditions for leisure seeking and food and wine production.
Here at the Sunday morning Farmers Market local producers really turn it on with one hundred percent fresh local produce … from fruit and veggies to specialty goods ... it’s a wonderful showcase for the region.
As well as being a leader in food production the Hawkes Bay is also at the forefront of winemaking. Over thirty wineries use the warm sunny climate to magnificent effect.
Two main urban centres service all the action … art deco Napier … and to the south Hastings, where decorative Spanish Mission architecture sits alongside some stunning public art.
A great diversity of experiences can be found here and we suggest 1-2 days for this region.
