Nelson & Nelson Lakes
With the entire region’s population numbering just 83-thousand, there’s an easy-going holiday town charm about this place.
Right from the early days of Colonial settlement this sunniest of regions has been a magnet for vacationers and lifestyle seekers. It’s thanks in large part to the surrounding mountains, which protect Golden Bay from prevailing winds.
Artists of every ilk reside here … you can browse galleries lined with the work of painters, potters, sculptors and jewelers not to mention the world famous Wearable Arts Museum that is truly a must see if you are in the region.
So in a few days you can be awash with art, beautiful scenery and a very quaint location.
Again if you wish to blob out in the summer months of New Zealand this is a great area to do so especially at the various lodges located in the region – so 4 days if you have time or 1 day to see Nelson and keep moving.
